The press secretary of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Dmitry Pletenchuk, has responded to the “demilitarization” of yet another combat ship, the “Second World Army.” A representative of the Naval Forces commented on the destruction of the BDK “Caesar Kunikov” in Crimea with the words of the Kremlin dictator, Vladimir Putin.

The news first appeared on the National Bank News: the Ukrainian Naval Forces have denounced the recent destruction of the BDK “Caesar Kunikov” in Crimea with strong words from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Pletenchuk, the destruction of the BDK is a tragic loss for the Ukrainian Navy and a clear demonstration of Russia’s aggressive actions in the region. He stated, “The destruction of the BDK ‘Caesar Kunikov’ is not just the loss of a ship, it is a loss of Ukrainian sovereignty and an attack on our national security.” The ship was originally commissioned by the Soviet Union in 1975 and was transferred to Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR in 1991. It was one of the few remaining combat ships in Ukraine’s naval fleet.

The Ukrainian Navy believes that the destruction of the BDK was a deliberate move by Russia to further assert their control over Crimea and the Black Sea region. Pletenchuk added, “This is not just a loss for Ukraine, but for the entire international community. It is a violation of international norms and a direct challenge to the sovereignty of Ukraine.”

The BDK “Caesar Kunikov” was originally designed for amphibious landings and was a crucial component of the Ukrainian Navy’s defense strategy. Its destruction not only poses a threat to Ukraine’s security, but also to the stability of the entire region.

The destruction of the BDK has also drawn comparisons to Putin’s actions in Crimea and his aggressive rhetoric towards Ukraine. Pletenchuk referenced Putin’s infamous statement in 2014 where he referred to Crimea as “having always been part of Russia,” despite its annexation being internationally condemned. Pletenchuk stated, “These comments from Putin only further prove his disregard for international law and his continued aggression towards Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian Navy is now left with a significant gap in their naval capabilities, as the BDK was one of their largest and most powerful vessels. The destruction of the ship not only affects their defense strategy, but also their ability to conduct rescue missions and provide aid in times of crisis.

However, despite this loss, the Ukrainian Navy remains determined and united in their efforts to defend their sovereignty. Pletenchuk concluded, “Although we have lost a crucial asset, our spirit and determination remain unbreakable. We will continue to defend our borders and show the world that Ukraine will not be intimidated.”

The international community has also shown their support for Ukraine in this difficult time. The United States, Canada, and the European Union have all condemned Russia’s actions and have reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The destruction of the BDK “Caesar Kunikov” serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It also highlights the need for continued support and solidarity with Ukraine to counter Russia’s aggressive actions in the region. The Ukrainian Navy remains a symbol of strength and resilience in the face of adversity, and will continue to defend their nation with determination and pride.
