Speaker of the operational-strategic task force “Tavria” Dmitry Lykhovyi revealed the number of civilians who can remain in Avdiivka, Donetsk region, explaining why it is impossible to determine the exact number of people who die in the city.
According to Lykhovyi, there is currently no concrete data on how many civilians are still living in Avdiivka. The situation in the city is constantly changing due to ongoing military operations and the constant shelling by Russian-backed separatists. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately determine the number of civilians who are still staying in the city.
However, Lykhovyi stressed that the Ukrainian military is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of civilians in Avdiivka. They have set up checkpoints and safe corridors for civilians to leave the area, and also regularly provide humanitarian aid to those in need.
Despite these efforts, there are still some civilians who refuse to leave their homes in Avdiivka. Lykhovyi explained that this is due to various reasons, such as fear of leaving their belongings behind, lack of financial means to relocate, or simply not wanting to leave their hometown.
It is also difficult to determine the exact number of casualties among civilians in Avdiivka. This is because many of the bodies are often buried under the debris of destroyed buildings and it takes time for them to be recovered. Moreover, some of the people who die in the city are not registered as civilians, as they may have been members of armed groups.
Lykhovyi emphasized that the Ukrainian military is always transparent and provides accurate information about the situation in Avdiivka. He also stated that their main priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians in the conflict zone.
In a recent briefing, the operational-strategic task force “Tavria” reported that there are currently less than 10,000 civilians remaining in Avdiivka. This number is significantly lower compared to the estimated population of around 35,000 before the conflict broke out in 2014. This shows the devastating impact that the ongoing conflict has had on the city and its inhabitants.
It is worth noting that Avdiivka is not the only city in eastern Ukraine that is experiencing the consequences of the ongoing conflict. Many other cities and towns in the region have also been heavily affected, and civilians are constantly living in fear of shelling and fighting.
In conclusion, the situation in Avdiivka remains complex and challenging, as the city is still in the midst of the conflict. However, the Ukrainian military is doing their utmost to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians in the area. It is important for the international community to continue supporting Ukraine in its efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
